Come along as we describe a day in our life house and pet sitting in Naxos. From morning walks with three lovable dogs and a cat to beach outings and working remotely.

A Day as House and Pet Sitters in Naxos

In May 2024, we found ourselves on the beautiful island of Naxos, taking care of three lovely dogs—Daisy, Fifi, and Melenia—and an outdoor cat named Swimmy. Here’s a look at a typical day on this amazing Greek island:

Morning Routine with the Pets

  • 6:00-7:00 AM: Our day starts with a gentle nudge or a soft bark. The dogs, who sleep with us, wake us up. We all get up together and head outside to let Swimmy out of her cozy spot for the night.
  • Morning Walk: With all four pets, we take a peaceful walk around the garden. It’s a perfect start to the day, watching the sun rise as the dogs do their business and Swimmy stretches her legs.
  • Breakfast Time: After the walk, the pets have their breakfast and take any needed medications. Once they’ve eaten, we have our breakfast and take a moment to relax and enjoy the calm.

Beach Walk and Work

  • Beach Outing: After breakfast has settled, we get the dogs ready for their favorite part of the day—a beach walk! We usually drive to Plaka Beach, where the sand is soft and the views are amazing.
  • Remote Work: After our beach trip, we head back to the house to start our remote work. The dogs are happy to relax while we work, and we take breaks to give them short walks around the property.

Afternoon and Evening Relaxation

  • Snack & Dinner: As the day goes on, we enjoy a light afternoon snack and then prepare dinner for the dogs. They get their evening meal, and we start to slow down for the evening.
  • Exercise & Evening Walk: With the dogs fed and happy, we sometimes head to the home gym for a quick workout or take another walk in the area. Naxos is so beautiful that it’s hard to resist exploring just a little more.
  • Feeding the Cats: Around 8:00 PM, we first give Swimmy her food in the room where she sleeps. Then, we prepare food for the street cats. We go outside and call them with a familiar “meow,” and soon we’re surrounded by happy, hungry felines.

Wrapping Up the Day

  • Evening Routine: After a refreshing shower, we cook dinner and settle in for the night. Whether we’re reading a book or watching a movie, the dogs are always by our side, enjoying the calm evening with us.

Living in Naxos and caring for these wonderful animals was an experience we’ll remember forever. The combination of work, relaxation, and the love of our temporary fur family made each day special. We discovered a place we hadn’t thought of visiting before, and it ended up being one of our favorite spots.
